Born in Belgium, with origins from Hong Kong, Pak Yan started playing the piano at the age of 9. She studied in Belgium (Royal Conservatory of Antwerp) and Portugal (ESMAE, O Porto) for classical piano. On the way she took some jazz workshops here and there and soon decided that her interests lay broadly inside the sound and free improvisation world. She makes music for dance-theatre productions (‘Gadgetland’ with Lazara Rosell Albear), shadow theatre (Dala Dala Company) and documentary (‘News From Nowhere’ by Christoph Van Collie). She plays for dancers, gives workshops in free improvised music. Toured in Japan, Europe and has a few albums out with her toy band (The Crappy Mini Band) and her free impro quartet (kuruwasan).
She plays/played with musicians such as Giovanni Di Domenico, Joao Lobo, Paolo Angeli, Mathieu Calleja, Lazara Rosell Albear, Mathieu Ha, Tatsuhisa Yamamoto, Daysuke Takaoka, Gregoire Tirtiaux, Mori-Shige and many more.
