Shih Yun
(SING) Visual Arts

Shih Yun begins painting after graduating from San Francisco Art Institute. Thereafter she returnes to Singapore where she is a practicing artist, and founds there her own art space/studio, 'instinc'. Shih Yun also works as a fine arts faculty advisor for 3dsense Media School, educator, freelance designer, curator and experimental filmmaker. Influenced by Abstract Expressionists, Jackson Pollock, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline, she is known for her strong energetic use of black ink and a passionate obsession with capturing the elusive moment that exists between chaos and order.
During the residency, Shih Yun kept visual diaries that will be presented as an installation in the exhibition. The personal impressions grow to an extended mindmap and a documentary of getting familiar with a new context, Brussels. Two scolls measuring 18 meters each will be showcased in the pool of Bains Connective.

32-23 Mind the Gap:
10mins live painting performance
Shih Yun Yeo (Singapore) and Magdalena Suranyi (Argentina)

There will be a large canvas on the floor, this specified surface is the official record of the event. Ten minutes of live violin will be the main catalyst. Evidently, it is the element of chance and the haphazard nature in which this collaboration is fashioned that makes it impossible to predict exactly where it will go on once it has started. This piece will end when the music dies out. Indeed, this painted surface will outline a hurried aesthetic dialogue between two creative impulses commonly seperated by miles and miles of land, but for one night they are bound by a single lapse in space and time for this 1omins.
